Men's League Sign Up Link

Welcome to the 2024 golf season! Some quick notes:

You will be signing up for the league individually… you will not sign up with a partner. Some weeks, we will host individual games / contests… other weeks we will host team games / contests. Who you team up with will be different from week to week.

League play will be on Tuesdays mornings at 8:30am only. Having the league on Tuesdays will ensure everyone is playing on the same day, in the same conditions. Please see additional league rules & regulations below:

You do not need to attend every week. Play the weeks that you can play.

All participants are required to set up ACH direct bill with the office. This is a huge help with charging out league participants each week so that counter staff do not have to run 60 different credit card transactions. Thank you for your understanding.

Men's League

LEAGUE REGISTRATION:

• League registration fee is the same as last year: $75.00 per player.
• All players sign up individually. Signup by emailing Ryan at [email protected].

GREENS FEE / CART FEE RATES:

• The Tuesday Morning 18-hole league greens fee rate is $69.50. This rate only applies to Men’s League members on Tuesday with the Tues. Morning group and does not include the $10 game fee.

TUESDAY GAMES:

• Tuesday date & games are outlined in the schedule. This year, all games must be played on Tuesday.
• There will be an automatic $10 weekly game charge to your member account.
• ***Additionally, Bob Wisbey will continue to run the $5 cash side-game on Tuesday mornings. Please be mindful to bring $5 cash and provide that to Bob right away on Tuesday mornings.

SCORECARDS:

• Scorecards must be clearly marked with full name and date.
• All scorecards must be attested by another player that is not part of your team.
• All scorecards must be turned in on the same day as play immediately upon round completion.
• To qualify your score, you must turn in your scorecard into the league scorecard ‘box’. This box will be placed on the pro shop counter. For those with a WSGA handicap, all league scores will be entered and maintained by Abbey Springs Golf Course. Please do not enter your own league scores. All players with a GHIN handicap must enter their own scores each week.
• Tuesday Game winnings will be posted to the player's Golf Shop Credits.

PUTTING:

• Some players love playing by the book, and others like a more laid-back approach to leagues. And everyone is passionate about it. I can only please so many wonderful people at once on this issue. That said, we’ve had a little give-and-take in regards to putting over the past few seasons and have come up with a solution that probably won’t please everybody, but (hopefully) won’t make anyone upset to the point of storming down my office door:
• All putts longer than the length of your shoe must be putt out. Putts inside the length of your shoe can be picked up.
• Anyone picking up their putt outside the length of their shoe will be disqualified for the week, no exceptions. This isn’t about me trying to be good cop / bad cop. This is simply about trying to bring consistency across the board in terms of rules. This policy still encourages good putting and should help to encourage pace of play at the same time.

HANDICAPS:

• All participating players must have an established handicap. If you do not have a handicap, you can purchase and establish one with the pro shop.
• Abbey Springs has the right to change a player’s handicap if is thought to be incorrect. Upon establishing a handicap, Abbey Springs has the right to estimate a players handicap until an official handicap is established.
• Any player thought to be falsifying or manipulating (ei. sandbagging) a handicap is up for dismissal from the league with no refund.
All 9 and 18 hole rounds you play throughout the season must be posted to your handicap, regardless if it is for league play or not (unless match play, scramble or other unique format is being played). Even if you do/don’t like your score, you are still required to post it. All rounds played at other courses must also be posted.

OTHER RULES:

• PLAY THE BALL AS IT LIES. Absolutely no rolling the ball. If your ball is embedded, you must get another team’s approval to lift clean and place. Otherwise, PLAY AS IT LIES. “Propping” or “Rolling” balls up on the grass to give yourself a better lie is strictly prohibited. If a lift, clean and place rule is implemented on a certain day, it will be communicated before the round.
• If your ball comes to rest in an area marked by red stakes, it is considered a hazard. In this case, drop your ball within two club lengths of where it last crossed the boundary of the hazard, no closer to the hole. You must add one penalty stroke to your score for the drop. There is no additional penalty for landing in a hazard, but you must record the stroke added for the drop
• Cheating of any manner will not be tolerated and is grounds for being dismissed from the league without reimbursement.
• Please keep pace of play. Our course is rated at 4 hours and 10 minutes.
• I reserve the right for judgement in the event of an issue coming up that isn’t otherwise described in this document. I will do my best to make the decision that is best for the league in keeping competitive parity.

TEE DESIGNATIONS:

• AGES 18-49 (w/ index ≤ 7.0): WALNUT TEES ONLY
• AGES 18-49 (w/ index > 7.0): MAPLE TEES (WALNUT TEES OPTIONAL)
• AGES 50+: COMBO TEES (MAPLE TEES OPTIONAL)
• AGES 70+: OAK TEES (COMBO OR MAPLE TEES OPTIONAL)
• AGES 85+: ASH TEES (OAK OR COMBO OPTIONAL)

When signing up, I will ask for your to indicate your standard tee designation. In any week, if you wish to change your tee designation, please notify me so I can make those scorecard changes accordingly.

TUESDAY, JUNE 18: PAR 3S, 4S & 5S (TEAM GAME)
FORMAT: THIS IS A 3-PLAYER TEAM GAME WITH A, B & C PLAYERS. A PLAYERS WILL COUNT ALL THEIR PAR 5 SCORES. B PLAYERS WILL COUNT ALL THEIR PAR 4 SCORES, AND C PLAYERS WILL COUNT ALL THEIR PAR 3 SCORES. BEST TEAM TOTAL COMBINED SCORE WINS. DUE TO HAVING TEAMS COMPRISED OF A, B & C PLAYERS, WE WILL TAKE GROSS SCORES ONLY.

SUNDAY, JUNE 23: MEMBER / MEMBER EVENT
[NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE MEMBER / GUEST EVENT]
JOIN US AT ABBEY SPRINGS FOR THE ANNUAL MEMBER-MEMBER EVENT, FEATURING AN EXCITING NEW FORMAT! THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL UNIT OWNERS, PUBLIC MEMBERS, AND MEN'S LEAGUE MEMBERS.
TIME: 12:45 PM SHOTGUN START
FORMAT: MODIFIED ALTERNATE SHOT. EACH TEAM HITS THEIR OWN TEE SHOT, THEN THEY CONTINUE TO SWITCH BALLS AND PLAY ALTERNATE SHOT UNTIL BOTH GOLF BALLS ARE HOLED OUT. SCORES WILL BE COMBINED STROKE PLAY. WE WILL RECOGNIZE BOTH GROSS SCORES AND NET WINNERS USING HANDICAPS. DEPENDING ON PARTICIPATION, THE EVENT MAY BE FLIGHTED BASED ON HANDICAP. GROSS & NET. ALL PLAYERS WHO SIGN UP MUST HAVE A HANDICAP IF DESIRING TO BE CONSIDERED IN NET SCORING.

JUNE 25: STABLEFORD INDIVIDUAL GAME
FORMAT: THE STABLEFORD SCORING SYSTEM IS A POINTS-BASED FORMAT USED IN GOLF COMPETITIONS. IN THIS FORMAT, PLAYERS EARN POINTS BASED ON THEIR SCORES RELATIVE TO PAR ON EACH HOLE. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO ACCUMULATE AS MANY POINTS AS POSSIBLE OVER THE COURSE OF THE ROUND. THE PLAYER WITH THE HIGHEST POINT TOTAL AT THE END OF THE ROUND IS THE WINNER. LOW GROSS & NET SCORES WIN.
EAGLE: 8PTS BIRDIE: 4PTS PAR: 2PTS BOGEY: 1PT DOUBLE OR WORSE: 0PTS

TUESDAY, JULY 2
NO GAME - ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY!

TUESDAY, JULY 9: MODIFIED PINEHURST (TEAM GAME)

1. TEE SHOTS: BOTH PLAYER A AND PLAYER B HIT TEE SHOTS FROM THE TEE BOX. LET'S ASSUME PLAYER A'S TEE SHOT LANDS IN THE FAIRWAY, AND PLAYER B'S TEE SHOT ENDS UP IN THE ROUGH.
2. SWAPPING BALLS: AFTER THE TEE SHOTS, PLAYER A AND PLAYER B SWAP BALLS. PLAYER A NOW PLAYS FROM WHERE PLAYER B'S BALL LANDED IN THE ROUGH, AND PLAYER B PLAYS FROM WHERE PLAYER A'S BALL LANDED IN THE FAIRWAY.
3. SECOND SHOTS: EACH PLAYER NOW HITS THEIR SECOND SHOT FROM THE NEW LOCATION OF THEIR PARTNER'S BALL. SO, PLAYER A HITS THE SHOT FROM THE ROUGH WHERE PLAYER B'S BALL WAS, AND PLAYER B HITS THE SHOT FROM THE FAIRWAY WHERE PLAYER A'S BALL WAS.
4. CHOOSING THE BETTER BALL: AFTER THE SECOND SHOTS, THE TEAM SELECTS THE BETTER OF THE TWO BALLS TO PLAY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE HOLE. LET'S SAY PLAYER A'S BALL IN THE FAIRWAY IS IN A BETTER POSITION, SO THE TEAM CHOOSES TO PLAY FROM THERE.
5. ALTERNATE SHOT: FROM THAT POINT ON, PLAYER A AND PLAYER B TAKE TURNS HITTING THE BALL, PLAYING ALTERNATE SHOTS UNTIL THE BALL IS HOLED OUT. FOR EXAMPLE, IF PLAYER A'S BALL WAS CHOSEN, PLAYER B HITS THE NEXT SHOT, THEN PLAYER A, AND SO ON UNTIL THE HOLE IS COMPLETED.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 10: HORSERACE (TEAM GAME)
OPEN TO ALL OWNERS, MEMBERS & LEAGUE MEMBERS
FORMAT: TWO-MAN TEAMS WILL PLAY ALTERNATE SHOT. TEAMS WILL CHOOSE WHICH PLAYER TEES OFF FIRST ON THE FIRST HOLE. PLAYERS WILL ALTERNATE TURNS TAKING SHOTS UNTIL THE GOLF BALL IS HOLED. ON THE NEXT HOLE, THE OTHER TEAM PLAYER (THE INDIVIDUAL WHO DID NOT TEE OFF ON THE FIRST HOLE) WILL BE THE ONE TO TEE OFF, AND THIS PATTERN CONTINUES THROUGHOUT THE EVENT. ALL INDIVIDUALS IN THE EVENT PLAY THE SAME HOLE AT THE SAME TIME.
ELIMINATION: HIGH SCORE(S) WILL BE ELIMINATED AFTER PLAYING EACH HOLE. LAST TEAM STANDING WINS.
SIGN-UP: SIGN UP INDIVIDUALLY, OR THE SHOP WILL TRY TO PAIR YOU UP. LIMIT FIRST 20 TEAMS TO SIGN UP.
COST: $25 PER PERSON ($50 PER TEAM ENTRY)… INCLUDES GREENS FEE AND PRIZES FOR WINNERS.

SUNDAY, JULY 14TH: BARRACUDA CHAMPIONSHIP (INDIVIDUAL GAME)
THIS EVENT IS IN ANTICIPATION OF THE BARRACUDA CHAMPIONSHIP AT OLD GREENWOOD GOLF COURSE AT TAHOE MOUNTAIN CLUB IN TRUCKEE, CA (JULY 18-21). THE BARRACUDA CHAMPIONSHIP IS THE ONLY EVENT ON THE PGA TOUR FEATURING THE MODIFIED STABLEFORD SCORING FORMAT.

TIME: 1:45PM SHOTGUN FORMAT: THE STRATEGY IN MODIFIED STABLEFORD FORMATS CAN, IN MOST INSTANCES, BE SUMMED UP IN THREE WORDS: GO FOR IT. THIS SCORING FORMAT REWARDS RISK-TAKING ON THE GOLF COURSE. FOR INSTANCE, IF THE PROFESSIONAL IS FACING A CARRY OVER WATER THAT HE NORMALLY WOULDN’T TRY, THE MODIFIED STABLEFORD FORMAT PRESENTS AN INCENTIVE TO GO FOR IT. A BIRDIE IS WORTH TWICE AS MANY POSITIVE POINTS (2) AS A BOGEY IS WORTH PUNITIVE POINTS (-1). EAGLES OFFER HUGE PAYOFFS (5 POINTS) AND THE WORST A PLAYER COULD POSSIBLY DO WOULD BE A DOUBLE BOGEY (-3 POINTS) AT WHICH POINT HE COULD PICK UP HIS BALL AND CARRY ON TO THE NEXT HOLE.

TUESDAY, JULY 16: SKINS & FLAGS (INDIVIDUAL GAME)
FORMAT: THIS GAME IS AN INDIVIDUAL STROKE PLAY GAME. A SKIN IS DEFINED AS THE LOWEST SCORE ON A GIVEN HOLE (GROSS OR NET) COMPARED TO THE FIELD. IF YOU EARN A GROSS SKIN ON A HOLE, YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO EARN A NET SKIN ON THE SAME HOLE. GROSS & NET... SCORECARD WILL BE DOTTED FOR SKINS. ADDITIONAL FLAG EVENTS MAY ALSO BE PART OF THE COMPETITION.

TUESDAY, JULY 23: TROUBLE (TEAM GAME)
FORMAT: THIS IS A 2-PLAYER TEAM GAME. A HANDICAP PLAYERS WILL BE PAIRED WITH B HANDICAP PLAYERS, SELECTED BY THE GOLF SHOP. TEAMS GET ONE POINT FOR THE FOLLOWING THROUGHOUT THE ROUND:
LOST BALL: 1 PTS WATER HAZARD: 3 PTS BUNKER: 2 PTS THREE-PUTT: 2 PTS
FOUR-PUTT: 5 PTS PUTT FROM ON THE GREEN THAT ROLLS OFF: 5 PTS
**PLAYERS CAN ERASE ALL ACCUMULATED POINTS ON A GIVEN HOLE BY MAKING PAR.
TEAM WITH THE LOWEST COMBINED POINT TOTAL WINS.

TUESDAY JULY 30: QUOTA (INDIVIDUAL GAME)
FORMAT: YOUR HANDICAP WILL BE SUBTRACTED FROM 36. THIS NUMBER WILL BE THE “QUOTA” YOU NEED TO BEAT FOR THE DAY. YOU EARN POINTS THROUGH A STABLEFORD FORMAT:
EAGLE: 4PTS BIRDIE: 3PTS PAR: 2PTS BOGEY: 1PT DOUBLE OR WORSE: 0PTS
EXAMPLE: IF YOU HAVE A HANDICAP OF 12, YOUR QUOTA IS A 24. THIS IS THE NUMBER YOU HAVE TO BEAT. IF YOU END YOUR ROUND WITH 32 POINTS, AND YOU FINISH AT +8. HIGHEST SCORE WINS.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 6: TEXAS SCRAMBLE (TEAM GAME)
FORMAT: TEAMS OF FOUR PLAYERS PLAY FROM THE BEST TEE SHOT ON EACH HOLE, THEN ALL PLAYERS PLAY THEIR OWN BALL FROM THAT SPOT. THIS FORMAT PROMOTES TEAMWORK AND ALLOWS FOR AGGRESSIVE PLAY. PAIRINGS MADE BY GOLF SHOP.
